Mark-Making as Mindful Practice: Sept 11
Slow-Stitching as Personal Ritual
Available spots
Service Description
Mark-making can serve as a therapeutic, mindful practice that grounds us in the present moment. Needle and thread are a form of mark making on fabric that has been practiced by human hands for centuries. Slow-stitching is a meditative, hand-sewing practice. It involves using simple stitches with thread and needle where the sewer experiences a tactile repetition, rhythm, and flow. As a somatic (body) practice slow-stitching fosters a sense of connection, play, creativity, and personal ritual. We'll experience the feel of thread and fabric while stitching in nature as our inspirational backdrop. This session is designed for the person with curiosity and an openness to play; no prior sewing or creative experience necessary. We'll set aside our expectations and tendencies towards perfection and explore what that day brings us! Participants will be sent a list of basic materials they can bring thread, scraps of chosen fabric, and basic sewing needles with which to experiment; some basic materials will also be provided. We'll enjoy a light tea as an ending gesture for sharing and integration. Michelle Pietrzak-Wegner will facilitate a non-judgmental space for exploration and connection amongst participants. She has facilitated workshops and circles for over twenty years and specializes in helping people slow down and connect to their body, nature and their inner-self.
