Service Description

Mark-making can serve as a therapeutic, mindful practice that grounds us in the present moment. The repetition, rhythm, and flow that can happen when taking art material to surface is a somatic (body) practice that fosters a sense of connection, play, creativity, personal ritual and meaning for the maker. We will engage in collection and gathering of nature objects such as sticks, stones, grasses, and leaves and create drawing and mark-making utensils through our partnership with nature. Experimental marks on paper using sumi ink with our found objects will allow us to discover a new kind of expression in partnership with nature as our primary guide. This session is designed for the adult person with curiosity and an openness to play. We'll set aside our expectations and tendencies towards perfection and explore what that day brings us. Participants are invited to bring nature objects/papers with them with which they may like to experiment; however many materials will also be available for creating nature brushes as well as ink and paper. We'll enjoy a light tea as an ending gesture for sharing and integration. Michelle Pietrzak-Wegner will facilitate a non-judgmental space for exploration and connection amongst participants. She has facilitated workshops and circles for over twenty years and specializes in helping busy adults slow down and connect to their body, nature and their inner-self. Intended for adults 18+. WHEN: Monday, Nov 23 TIME: 10-12noon WHERE: Yoyogi Park, Tokyo (exact location will be emailed) COST: ¥1800 ($11 USD) per person; payable by credit card online at time of registration PLEASE NOTE: This session will postponed if weather is uncooperative for that day.
